Mahan, W.Va. (WVDN) – On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at approximately 11:20 pm, Cpl. S. J. Borsman responded to a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 77 near the 64-mile maker. Steve Loera, 44-year-old from Hammond Lake, IN, was traveling north when he lost control of his tractor and trailer and struck the median wall. The tractor and trailer overturned and the cargo, large plastic pipes, went into the southbound lanes. The pipes were struck by Lorenzo Williams, 59-year-old from Attoski, NC, and Emmeret Wheeler, 57-year-old from Ocala, FL, who were both operating tractor and trailers, southbound. Both vehicles caught fire. No occupants were seriously injured. Williams’ cargo consisted of plasma which was contained. All lanes of Interstate 77 were shut down for several hours for cleanup.

Investigation is continuing.
