LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – Concerned citizens are rallying to support local farmers and food banks on Saturday, April 19, at 12:30 p.m. The rally will be held at the Greenspace adjacent to City Hall in Lewisburg.
Organizers of the rally said, “We’re coming together to shed light on the dramatic and sudden federal government cuts that drastically harm our local farms, school food programs, and food pantries. The US Department of Agriculture recently eliminated over one billion dollars that helps sustain our local farms and provides food for our school children.”
They encourage the community to join them for speakers, music and information on how you can defend local farms and food.
This event is also a food drive to help local food banks and community members who rely on them.
Donations to bring for food pantries: jams/jellies, canned meats, crackers, canned fruit, soup, snacks, paper goods, cleaning supplies and hygiene products. All donations are appreciated.
