PRINCETON- Following a season-opening 8-6 loss to Midland Trail, the Greenbrier West Lady Cavaliers hit the road to take on the Princeton Tigers on Wednesday, March 26 looking for their first win of the 2025 campaign.
With the score locked up at 3-3 after two innings, West scored five runs in third and 14 over the final three frames to propel themselves to a dominating 17-5 victory.
The Cavs (1-1) got on the board early when Brooke Patterson singled home Brilee Redden for a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Then, an RBI groundout from Maddie Fields and a Preslee Treadway run off an error put Greenbrier West up 3-0.
Princeton battled back over the next two innings to tie the score, and it appeared a back-and-forth contest was in the making.
But those thoughts ended rather quickly.
After Brooke Patterson scored on a fielding error, Fields came across home plate on a double from Brooklyn Adkins. Then, with Diana Porter on base following a single and just after Adkins stole home to make it 6-3, Ava Price ripped a ball to centerfield and the speedster was able to come all the way around to score for a 2-run inside-the-park home run.
After the top of the third, the Lady Cavs led 8-3.
Princeton got two girls on in the bottom half and what looked like a big inning turned out to be anything but. Cavs pitcher Kyndall Taylor followed with a strikeout of Tori Robinson and then got Ivie Radford to hit into a double play that started with Redden and ended with Porter.
From that point forward, it was all Cavs.
Redden led off the fourth frame with a homer to left field and Patterson tripled immediately after. Patterson scored on Fields sac fly and Adkins RBI double knocked in Treadway. Jenna Hunter got in on the action with a base hit to cap the fourth inning as Price scored on an error on the play, and the Cavs held a commanding 14-3 lead.
The contest wrapped up after five innings.
Patterson went 4-4 with two triples, four runs scored and an RBI. Adkins and Price each went 2-4 at the plate and both scored two runs. Adkins had three RBIs and Price knocked in four. Fields had three RBIs. Treadway scored three runs and Redden scored two plus had a home run.
Taylor (W) pitched four innings, allowed eight hits, three earned runs, walked four, and struck out five.
Zoey Agnew went 3-3 for the Tigers.
