CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) — WorkForce West Virginia today announced a new texting campaign in conjunction with the agency’s Unemployment Insurance Program initiative to further connect unemployed and underemployed West Virginians with resources.
Text messages from WorkForce West Virginia will come from 1-800-252-5627 and will never request sensitive information such as your Social Security Number, Personal Identification Number or bank account details.
“This is an excellent opportunity to reach eligible West Virginians and share necessary information to ensure that everyone who qualifies for UI benefits can successfully navigate the application process and receive the support they need. However, WorkForce West Virginia will never include links in text messages. If action is required, you will be directed to visit your local unemployment office or our official website for more information,” said Scott Adkins, Acting Commissioner of WorkForce West Virginia. “WorkForce will not communicate information related to specific claims or awards via text message and will never request your sensitive information.”
Fraudulent messages pretending to be from WorkForce West Virginia may attempt to steal your personal information. If you receive a suspicious message claiming to be from WorkForce West Virginia that asks for sensitive details or directs you to click a link, do not respond. Instead, report it by visiting uc.workforcewv.org and selecting Report Suspected Fraud.
If you prefer not to receive text updates, you can opt out at any time.
The UI program serves as a vital financial support system for individuals and their families during periods of unemployment or underemployment, providing a safety net until full-time employment is secured. To be eligible for UI benefits, individuals must have lost their job through no fault of their own or be working less than their full-time hours. Participants in the program must be able and available to work full-time. Staff can provide guidance on eligibility requirements and assist with filing claims and support services as needed.
Individuals who meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to file their UI claims online at uc.workforcewv.org. For those who may have limited access to computers or the Internet, WorkForce West Virginia local offices are equipped with necessary resources including computers for filing UI claims. Assistance is also available by phone for applicants who require additional support.
For more information or to file a claim, please visit WorkForceWV.org or contact your nearest WorkForce West Virginia local office.
