Linda Carole Burns Smith

Linda Carole Burns Smith, 82, of Lewisburg, WV, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, Richmond, VA. Born August 17, 1942, in Marlinton, WV, she was the daughter of the late Fred Campbell Burns Sr. and Lucille Barlow Burns.

Linda retired from WVSOM as Director of Institutional Development, was a member of the Old Stone Presbyterian Church, Lewisburg Chapter of PEO, WVSOM Alumni Association Honorary Member, and past member of Rotary International.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fredric William Smith; and grandson, Robert Stephen Lane Howard.

She is survived by her children – son, Fredric David Smith and wife, Teresa, of Lewisburg; daughters, Debra Lynne Smith Canterbury and husband, Doug, of Lewisburg, Cynthia Aileen Smith Alderson and husband, Edward, of Alderson, Laura Rae Smith Howard and husband, Steve, of Organ Cave; son, Mark Alan Smith and wife, Polly, of Lewisburg; and daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” Smith McAdams and husband, Sean, of Colorado; grandchildren, Ashley, Emma, Fredric, Sarah, Brittany, Jessica, Taylor, Riley, Lauren, Julia, Reagan, and Molly; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Fred Burns Jr. and wife, Carolyn, Tom Burns and wife, Dreama, Larry Burns and wife, Shelia, all of Marlinton, WV; and brothers-in-law, Jim Smith and wife, Jane, of Beckley, WV, and Mike Smith and wife; Donna, of Fayetteville, WV.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the Old Stone Presbyterian Church, Lewisburg, WV, with Pastor Cameron Harkness officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church, Tuesday. Burial will follow the service in the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens. Riley Smith, JD Staley, Will Bostic, Seth Kidd, Donnie Zimmerman, and Ayden Brunty will serve as Pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Fredric W. Smith Scholarship Fund at WVSOM in memory of Linda B. Smith – 400 Lee Street North, Lewisburg, WV 24901 or online at dogive.wvsomfoundation.org.
