CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – State Treasurer Larry Pack today announced the winning bid amount for the first online firearms auction in Office history was $26,150 placed from a registered federal firearm licensed (FFL) dealer in Pennsylvania. More than 50 bid submissions from licensed dealers spanning across 13 states participated in the online auction, which ended Monday, March 10.
“I am proud to put these dollars back into law enforcement agencies so they can purchase the equipment they need to better serve the public,” Treasurer Pack said. “This was the first time dealers were allowed to make bids online. My Office will continue to hold these online auctions to help modernize our Unclaimed Property Program and to extend the market value of sales by securing buying power from dealers across multiple states.”
There were 113 firearms and 400 pounds of ammunition up for bid during the first online auction. The winning bidder will pick up their firearms this week.
The next online auction is scheduled from April 14-28. There will be more than 200 firearms up for bid during that time.
In addition to online auctions, the Treasurer’s Office will continue to host separate on-site auctions requiring FFL dealers to attend in-person. The next in-person firearms auction is scheduled for March 27 in Kanawha City. The auction will consist of about 625 firearms.
