CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – The West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History (WVDACH) will begin accepting entries for the 2025 West Virginia Quilts and Wall Hangings Juried Exhibition on Friday, March 14 until Friday, April 25, at 4 p.m.
This is the 44th year of the exhibition which will open Friday, May 23, with an awards ceremony at the annual Vandalia Gathering at the Culture Center, State Capitol Complex, in Charleston. The free summer-long exhibition will be displayed through Sept. 13, 2025.
Quilts and wall hangings handmade or machine made by West Virginia residents are eligible for the exhibition. Special consideration will be given to hand-quilted entries. Entrants may submit one quilt and one wall hanging. There is a nonrefundable fee of $20 per entry. Quilts and wall hangings shown previously in a Department of Arts, Culture and History Quilts and Wall Hangings juried exhibition are not eligible.
Monetary awards will be presented for first ($750), second ($400), and third ($300) places in Pieced, Appliqued, and Mixed/Other quilt categories; and first ($400), second ($300), and third ($200) places in the wall hanging category. A Purchase Award valued at up to $2,000 and a $100 Best of Show Award also will be awarded. Non-monetary Honorable Mention Awards may also be presented at the juror’s discretion. Please note, kits are not eligible for prize awards.
The Department is also proud to host the Annual Quilting Workshop on May 9, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The instructor, Ms. Mary Zesiger, will be leading the workshop in a “Quilt A Story” lesson. There are limited spaces available, and an RSVP is required.
