ALDERSON W.Va. (WVDN) – A Summers County man was arrested last week on charges of domestic assault following an altercation with an individual.
Carl Eugene Wickline, 36, of Alderson, was taken into custody after an incident at his residence. According to law enforcement, the victim reported that Wickline had been drinking and became aggressive during a phone conversation with his family.
The victim told authorities that after returning from outside, Wickline demanded she return to the bedroom. Once inside, he allegedly threatened to physically harm her, blaming her for the situation. The victim also reported that Wickline allegedly punched the bedroom wall and placed a fist in front of her face while making further threats. She said she feared for her safety.
After the altercation, the victim left the residence and contacted authorities. Officers arrived at the scene and found Wickline intoxicated. He refused to speak about the incident, but authorities noted visible damage to the bedroom wall.
Wickline was arrested and charged with domestic assault. Under West Virginia law, domestic assault occurs when a person unlawfully attempts or threatens to inflict a violent injury on a family or household member or places them in reasonable fear of immediate harm.
The arrest comes after an ongoing investigation into the incident, which occurred at approximately 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3. Authorities are continuing to investigate the case.
Domestic assault and battery are serious charges in West Virginia, with penalties ranging from jail time to fines. Wickline is currently being held in the Southern Regional Jail, pending further proceedings. His bail has been set at $1,000.
