GHENT, W.Va. (WVDN) – Snow enthusiasts excited to enjoy the extended winter forecast can find their winter Nirvana at Winterplace Ski Resort. Home to West Virginia’s largest snow tubing park and encompassing 90 skiable acres, the resort is keeping the winter fun rolling with plenty of slopeside fun, family-friendly festivals and ski deals through Mid-March.
“With Mother Nature’s recent snowfall adding to our 100% Snowmaking capacity, we are looking forward to ensuring skiers have a top to bottom quality mountain experience all winter long, said Josh Faber, general manager. “We invite families to join us on the slopes and make some lasting memories. FEBRUARY/MARCH EVENTS
Bluebird Festival Weekend
Saturday, February 22 through Sunday, February 23
Winterplace will host its Bluebird Festival Weekend on Saturday, February 22 through Sunday, February 23. Saturday Event Highlights include a Mini Big Air freestyle competition at 2 p.m., face painting, food trucks a tap takeover from Freefolk Brewery and live music with Dave Gravely from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. in the Snowdrift Lounge. On Sunday, the festival continues with a family ski race at 2 p.m. consisting of one member 18+ and one over 12 to compete for the gold. There will also be food trucks and live music by Matt Mullins in the Snowdrift Lounge from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Snowmelt Festival Weekend
Saturday, March 1 through Sunday, March 2
Winterplace invites families to celebrate March on the slopes with a weekend of traditional ski and board entertainment for all ages including the highly anticipated return of the Pond Skim and the Cardboard Classic sled race. Both events offer exciting prizes. Participation in the Cardboard Classic Race is free, and the Pond Skim Race is free with lift ticket. The weekend will also include live entertainment and food trucks.
Saturday, March 1
Cardboard Classic Race
Starts at 2 p.m.
The Carboard Classic Sled Race takes place in the Snowtubing Park. Registration is free and participants can sign up at the Mountain House from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Teams of two are invited to build their sled using only cardboard, tape, glue and duct tape. Decorations such as paint and stickers are permitted, but no metal or plastic additions are allowed on the sled’s bottom. No lift ticket is required for this event. Winterplace will organize guests into heats or categories with the first-place winners in each category receiving prizes. Each team will launch from the top of the snowtubing park to see who can go the farthest and the fastest. Family and friends are invited to gather for a viewing party. Winners will be announced at 4:30 p.m.
Sunday, March 2
Pond Skim Race
Starts at 2 p.m.
Winterplace is bringing back its favorite Pond Skim event. Skiers and snowboarders are encouraged to show off their skills by crossing the pond in their best costumes. The challenge is to skim across the pond from the lowest point on the mountain.

Every Thursday and Friday, college students can enjoy an all-day, open-to-close lift ticket for just $45 plus tax, with rentals available for only $20.00 plus tax.
