(1936 – 2025)
Arlen Gail Myers (Miller) beloved mother to two adult children, 88, of Tuscola, IL, (formerly of Lewisburg, WV), passed away at home on February 7, 2025, leaving a void her family cannot fill.
Arlen was born in Rochester, MI, in 1936 to Ruth and Milton Miller and has four loved and adored siblings, Courtney (Mary Lou) Miller, Annette (dec. Jack) Stahl, Onnalee (Ted) Schmalzried, and Verlis Setne.
Arlen was preceded in death by her father, Milton Miller; mother, Ruth Miller Beckett; and husband, Homer Myers. She is survived by children, Eric (Chris) Rittman of Villa Grove, IL, Mark Rittman of Bowling Green, KY, Jane (Brian) Eaton of Deerfield, IL, and Frank (Mary) Myers of Bartlett, IL. Additionally, Arlen is survived by five grandchildren, Mark Rittman, Jr., Elijah Rittman, Christopher Eaton, and Samantha and Morgan Myers; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Arlen did not miss an opportunity to wish her family and friends a Happy Birthday, Happy Anniversary, or send them holiday wishes.
As a career, Arlen was a legal secretary and retired from Walgreens in 1998. She later worked for US Public Health Service, until she took a second retirement at age 80. Arlen was also an Airbnb Super Host in historic Lewisburg, WV, where she enjoyed meeting lots of great and interesting people through the years.
Arlen was an avid fan of gardening, cooking (the best place to eat in town was her kitchen), and hosting gatherings of friends and family. Arlen was very busy with the Lewisburg Garden Club, Old Stone Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg, and cooking meals for church gatherings and shut ins.
Arlen loved her family; she and her sisters took an annual “sisters” trip, every fall, where they traveled all over the United States and enjoyed a trip to Canada one year. This past fall, she visited all four of her siblings for a birthday celebration in Michigan. Family was very important to her. Her family and friends will miss her zest for life. In Arlen’s final days, she shared that she didn’t like to think about dying because she loved living.
Per Arlen’s request, her body has been donated to science. A Memorial Service will be planned in Lewisburg, WV, at a later date and time (TBA).
