GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – The ninth annual Donald Davis Memorial Toy Drive was again successful for the holiday season and the co-chairman, Patti Burwell of Spring Dale, noted, “It was heartwarming to witness the outpouring of support the drive has received once again.”
She reported that the distribution of toys was delivered to five different schools in western and southern Greenbrier County and eastern Fayette County, as well as two shelters in western Greenbrier and eastern Fayette County.
In addition to the toys, new gloves, toboggans, earbuds, winter coats and other winter weather necessities were distributed with the help of the Greenbrier Valley Council 8689 Knights of Columbus, and several churches throughout the Greenbrier and Meadow River Valleys.
“We gave backpacks, toys, games and stuffed animals in addition to the winter gear. Donald was a native of the western Greenbrier area who went to Washington, DC, for employment, but returned each year at Christmas time with a truckload of toys for distribution to the children in the western Greenbrier and eastern Fayette County area. Cousins and friends have continued this since his untimely death ten years ago,” Burwell added.
