LINDSIDE- James Monroe standout lineman Brady Baker decided to continue his football career at the next level and signed with the division-1 FCS Morehead State Eagles this past Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the James Monroe gymnasium.
Baker, a 3-time all-state football player, currently in the midst of his senior basketball season, said it was an easy choice when he finally made his decision.
“It may sound cliche’, but it really does feel like home,” Baker said.
A lot of the coaches have a West Virginia background, and I feel like it’s the best opportunity for me,” he continued.
It is believed that Baker is the first Maverick player in about 20 years to sign with a division-1 team and he is proud to represent Monroe County in that way.
“It means the world to me, and it means the world to me to do it here,” Baker stated.
“I feel like a lot of people would have left and tried to go somewhere bigger, but I wanted to do it right here because it meant a lot to me,” he added.
Although the next level is calling, Baker admitted he will miss the days of representing the Mavericks, which he has always done with class and respect.
“I’m going to miss putting on the purple and black. It’s been cool to see the community gather around me and help me out,” Baker said.
Baker will begin his Eagles career on the offensive side of the football.
“Just the interior part of the line, guard and center, just move around wherever they need me, Baker concluded.
