GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – The Greenbrier County Commission met in regular session on Jan. 28. The meeting started with the prelude and pledge and then moved on to the settlement of estates.
The Greenbrier County Commission made a presentation of $250,000 to the West Virginia based production company Nostone LLC. The check was for preproduction costs relating to the film “Blue Demons.”
The Commission only acts as a distributor of these funds which had been secured from the office of now former Governor Jim Justice. The Greenbrier County Commission is only responsible for distributing the funds and their own funds aren’t hurt by helping out.
“Blue Demons“ is to be a portrayal of the impact of the Norfolk Blue Demons basketball’s eight consecutive state championships. The time period for the championships was 1974 through 1981. The coal mining communities around Norfolk really felt the impact from the Blue Demons during those championship years.
The Organ Cave Community Center was given a grant in the amount of $3,960.00. The commission passed on the funds from the West Virginia Local Economic Development Assistance Grant fund.
Commissioner Richie Holiday abstained from voting as he had assisted Organ Cave in applying for the grant. A representative from the Organ Cave Community Center said the funds would be used for new windows.
Next, the commission had to consider resolution no. 8, which was the Greenbrier County PSD waterline extension project.
According to Commissioner Tammy Tincher, this is to be the final payment to close this project out. The vote was unanimous and the amount of $131,559.97 was approved.
The next regular meeting of the Greenbrier County Commission is scheduled for Feb. 11 at 10 a.m.
