RUPERT W.Va. (WVDN) – A 34-year-old woman was arrested in Rupert on Sunday, Jan. 19 after allegedly assaulting her grandmother with a knife, leading to charges of domestic assault and obstruction of justice. The incident occurred the previous night and resulted in an altercation that escalated to threats of violence before the accused fled the scene.
At roughly 1:26 p.m., the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call from an 82-year-old resident in distress. The caller reported her granddaughter, Chastity McMillion, attacked her while armed with a knife. The victim described McMillion as a habitual drug user who recently exhibited increasingly violent behavior.
The victim told authorities the altercation began on Saturday, Jan. 18 when McMillion locked herself in the bathroom of their residence in Rupert. After refusing to open the door for some time, the two women reportedly engaged in a verbal dispute. When McMillion finally emerged, she allegedly threatened the victim with a kitchen knife.
Fearing for her safety, the victim called 911 after McMillion left the home on foot. Shortly after receiving the call, a state trooper responded to the area. At approximately 1:50 p.m. the trooper spotted a woman walking along Main Street in Rupert matching the description from the 911 center and the victim. Upon making contact, the trooper confirmed that the woman was McMillion and informed her that she was under arrest for domestic assault.
According to the criminal complaint, McMillion resisted arrest and argued with the officer, prompting the trooper to issue multiple commands. Despite separate commands to cease her actions, McMillion continued to resist. She was ultimately taken into custody.
McMillion was charged with one count of domestic assault, addressing physical altercations between family members, and thirty-four counts of obstructing an officer for her refusal to comply with the trooper’s orders during the arrest.
McMillion’s arrest comes after a series of violent incidents regarding her grandmother in recent months. The victim told authorities that the behavior was not an isolated event and expressed concerns for her safety.
The suspect remains in custody and her case will be handled in Greenbrier County Magistrate Court. If convicted of the charges, McMillion could face one year for the domestic assault charge and up to 12 months for each count of obstructing an officer.
As of this publication, authorities have not released additional details regarding McMillion’s legal representation or a potential court date. McMillion’s bail has been set at $6,000.
