Charleston, W.Va. (WVDN) — The Charleston Ballet is proud to present BALLET.ESSENTIAL, a captivating mixed-bill performance that will round out the 2024-2025 season. This highly anticipated event will be held on March 14 -15, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at the Charleston Coliseum Theater.
BALLET.ESSENTIAL promises to be a celebration of artistry and movement, featuring a fusion of dance genres. The performance will feature the dynamic rhythms of AFRICAN IMAGES, a vibrant and energetic African-inspired work, the timeless elegance of the classical ballet LES SYLPHIDES, and the folk-dancing influences in BélaBartók’s ROMANIAN FOLK DANCES.
AFRICAN IMAGES and ROMANIAN FOLK DANCES were choreographed by K. R. Pauley. LES SYPHIDES uses a collection of Chopin’s Waltzes, Nocturnes, Preludes, and Mazurkas, originally composed as piano pieces. Michel Fokine choreographed this Romantic ballet sometimes known as“Chopiniana” and originally performed by ballet greats Pavlova, Nijinsky, and Karsavina.
In addition to the Charleston Ballet’s own company artists, BALLET.ESSENTIAL will also showcase guest performers.
