LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – A New Year’s Day domestic incident near Lewisburg resulted in the arrest of Joseph Lewis McCoy, 34, of Delbarton. Police responded to a residence after receiving a third-party report of an active altercation, during which McCoy allegedly choked the victim.
Police arrived and separated the two individuals, according to the criminal complaint. The document also states that the victim did not want to look in McCoy’s direction.
According to the criminal complaint, McCoy told police he and the victim had been involved in altercations over the past several months. He stated that during the New Year’s Day incident, the victim “started running her mouth” and spit in his face, at which point he grabbed her and threw her onto a couch.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim stated that McCoy had choked her during previous altercations. She also reported that during the New Year’s Day incident, he placed his hands around her throat and threw her into the kitchen sink and cabinets. The complaint notes that EMS had been called in the past due to a choking incident.
McCoy was arrested for domestic battery and taken to Southern Regional Jail. His bail has been set at $3,000.
