CHARMCO- This weekend was another packed weekend of great wrestling in Greenbrier County. Greenbrier West hosted their annual Lindsey Raines Memorial Tournament, originally the Greenbrier West Duals started by Toby Harris, renamed in Lindsey’s honor who was a 2005 Greenbrier West Graduate who passed suddenly from a brain aneurysm in 2006.
Teams from Greenbrier West, Oak Hill, Liberty Raleigh, Lewis County, Tyler Consolidated, Independence and Midland Trail battled it out in a full day in Charmco.
Greenbrier West wrestled and beat Oak Hill, Liberty Raleigh, and the all-stars–a combination of all teams JV– but fell short to Independence and Lewis County not because of bad wrestling, but lack of wrestlers.
When you can’t fill a weight, that’s a forfeit and an automatic six points to the opposing team and that adds up quickly when you’re on the short side.
Coach Jeremy Tincher mentioned several outstanding wrestlers that needed a special mention. Auston McKenzie, who recently received his 100th win, was one of those.
“He’s an excellent leader, great listener, hard worker and a joy to be around. You really can’t beat it,” Tincher said.
Greenbrier West travels to Summersville on January 3 and 4 for the Army National Guard Duals. Wrestling begins Friday at noon and Saturday at 10.
