Washington, DC (WVDN) — Today, Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, released the below statement on final passage of legislation that would transfer administrative jurisdiction of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Campus from the National Park Service to the District of Columbia, making it possible for the Washington Commanders and the city to negotiate for a new stadium. The legislation was approved by unanimous consent in the Senate early Saturday and will now head to the President’s desk to become law.
“I am proud to see this bipartisan agreement to revitalize the RFK Stadium area cross the finish line. With this legislation, we are giving the District of Columbia the opportunity to bring the Washington Commanders back home. I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of this deal and catching a game at the new stadium. I want to thank Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Mayor Muriel Bowser, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, and Congressman James Comer for their work to make sure this is a touchdown for everyone.”
