Nathan Lapatnck, who died in Sheffield, England recently at the advanced age of 111 years, was a staunch adherent to the Jewish faith. One of his daily habits was to bathe his forehead in vinegar, as he said it kept up his strength.

Ira Withrow of Maxwelton brought to our office a rutabaga that weighed 10 ½ pounds.
Feast Of The Lights
The entire student group of Greenbrier College will assemble on the steps of Greenbrier Hall for their annual “Feast of Lights” Christmas service and singing of Christmas carols. The townspeople of Lewisburg and surrounding communities are invited to attend this service.

Special this week is “It Happened One Night” with Clark Cable, Claudette Colbert, and Alan Hale. It’s funny, spicy, and interesting with each foot of film.

Indoor Tennis Courts Termed A Success
The Fairground’s Indoor Tennis Courts located in the West Virginia State Fair Pavilion was termed a success by Ed Rock, secretary-manager of the State Fair. The three courts have been treated with a special paint-on tennis surface as well as the facility heated and in the near future, showers will be installed.
Congress Votes On Bill To Find New Sources Of Energy
Congress has voted $20 billion to find new sources of energy for the nation. The energy measure, approved and sent to the White House, provides funds for research and development of energy sources including heat within the earth and from the sun.
Named Correspondent
Miss Donna Richardson of 105 Scott Street, Lewisburg, has been named Co-Ed Correspondent for the 1974-75 school term. Co-Ed, published nationally for Scholastic Magazine, Inc. for home economics students. Miss Richardson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Richardson is a freshman at Lewisburg Junior High.

Lewisburg Elks Country Club Burns
The Lewisburg Elks Country Club went up in smoke early Saturday morning in what officials are terming a “suspicious” fire. According to Fire Chief Wayne Pennington, it took around three hours to bring the fire under control, but firefighters were on the scene for nearly 9 ½ hours. It is a total loss, Pennington said.
Lady Spartans Open With Big Win
The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans opened their 1999-2000 basketball season with an impressive win at Oak Hill. East’s harassing defense ensured the 58-33 victory. “The girls are beginning to take great pride in team defense,” said coach Tina Boone.
John Curry Recognized As State’s Principal Of The Year
The Greenbrier County Board of Education recognized Eastern Greenbrier Junior High Principal John Curry as Principal of the Year. When commenting on his achievement, Curry said, “This is the highest moment in my 26-year career. This award is a reflection of the interdependent relationship between the school, the board of education and the parents.”
