GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – The Greenbrier County Commission met in regular session on Dec. 10. The meeting opened with the prelude and pledge. The settlement of nine estates was discussed before moving on. Minutes from the last meeting were approved pending the commission receiving the transcript of the previous meeting concerning the demolition of dilapidated property.
Greenbrier Valley Economic Bureau Corporation asked for a resolution from the Commission to apply for a matching funds grant from the West Virginia Economic Bureau. These funds are how the corporation functions throughout the year. Tammy Tincher noted this was already in the Commission’s budget for the year. The motion passed unanimously.
The bids were considered for the home confinement building’s EPDM roof project. Construction consultant Richard Wood was there to share his recommendation with the commission. Wood stated that he evaluated a bid from H&H Developers and one from Adam Whanger Contracting. Wood said that H&H did not provide several of the requested documents. He explained the reasons and said that the proposal from Adam Whanger had all the required documents and met both the warranty and material specifications. The Commission voted to accept the proposal from Adam Whanger.
Sheriff-elect Bart Baker approached the Commission about giving current sheriff, Bruce Sloan his service pistol upon his retirement. Baker explained that Sloan had given over 40 years to law enforcement with two terms as sheriff. According to Baker, it has become customary, when an officer or deputy retires to give them their duty weapon as a show of appreciation for their hard work. He noted that West Virginia code permits for such an award.
The Commission voted unanimously in favor of giving the outgoing sheriff his duty weapon upon retirement as recognition for his hard work for the county.
The Commission also recognized outgoing county prosecutor Patrick Via. Via has served the county since 2009, according to Commission president Tammy Tincher. He has prosecuted more than 1,000 felonies and several thousand misdemeanors. Tincher went on to thank both the outgoing sheriff and prosecutor for their services.
Due to the holidays, the next regular meeting of the Greenbrier County Commission will be on Dec. 18 at 10 a.m.
