HHS FUNDING: Senator Capito, Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS), announced grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for a variety of health service and research projects in West Virginia.
- $1,419,786 in HHS research grant funding to the West Virginia State Department of Health (Charleston, W.Va.) for its Hospital Preparedness Program.
- $1,405,193 in HHS research grant funding to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (Charleston, W.Va.) for maternal and child health services.
- $547,037 in HHS research grant funding to Braxton County School District (Sutton, W.Va.) for Head Start Funding.
- $449,241 in HHS research grant funding to West Virginia University (WVU) (Morgantown, W.Va.) for biological research related to deafness and communicative disorders.
EPA FUNDING: Senator Capito, Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee and a member of the Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, announced funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for projects in West Virginia.
- $22,985,000 in EPA funding to the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protections (WVDEP) (Charleston, W.Va.) to provide low interest rate financing to eligible public water systems for the costs associated with the planning, design, and construction of eligible drinking water improvement projects.
- $4,661,000 in EPA funding to the WVDEP (Charleston, W.Va.) to provide low interest rate financing to eligible public water systems for the costs associated with the planning, design, and construction of eligible drinking water improvement projects.
- $423,913 in EPA grant funding to the WVDEP (Charleston, W.Va.) to support ongoing projects supporting the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
- $362,950 in EPA funding to the West Virginia State Department of Health (Charleston, W.Va.) for its support of Radon program.
- $350,000 in EPA pollution prevention (P2) grant funding to West Virginia University (Morgantown, W.Va.) for developing educational materials and training to local businesses on reduction of toxic chemical use and pollution prevention best practices. WVU plans to address toxic chemicals such as ammonia, formaldehyde, toluene, and methylene chloride by conducting on-site technical assistance and providing recommendations. The program will focus on Safer Choice-certified products as safer alternatives to toxic chemicals.
- $126,174 in EPA grant funding to the West Virginia State Department of Health (Charleston, W.Va.) to support ongoing environmental management efforts to improve air quality and reduce localized pollution and health impacts, clean up and restore land for productive uses and healthy communities, and detect violations and promote compliance.
ARC FUNDING: As Ranking Member of the EPW Committee, Senator Capito announced funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) for a new education initiative affecting Appalachia, including West Virginia.
- $7,030,989 in ARC funding to the Mountain State Educational Services Cooperative (Dunbar, W.Va.) to implement a new, innovative teaching model into select middle schools that will introduce simulated workplace environments, engage students in real-world problem solving, and offer career-oriented education and experiences for students to explore.
DOT FUNDING: Senator Capito, a member of the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) Appropriations Subcommittee, also secured funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for West Virginia projects.

OSD technology provides a modular, prefabricated design solution with a high potential for the rapid replacement or rehabilitation of bridges with extended service lives.
- $552,000 in DOT Safe Streets and Roads for All grant funding to the City of Martinsburg, W.Va. for Martinsburg Transportation Network Safety.
- $277,766 in DOT grant funding to Empire Diversified Energy, Inc. (Follansbee, W.Va.) to develop a Master Plan for the Port of West Virginia to align with DOT strategies and meet market demand.
- $240,000 in DOT Safe Streets and Roads for All grant funding to the Belomar Regional Council (Wheeling, W.Va.) for the Belomar Regional Safety Action Plan.

DOJ FUNDING: Senator Capito, a member of the Senate Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Subcommittee, also announced grants from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for public safety and crime prevention measures.
- $7,000,000 in DOJ Justice Assistance Grant funding to GO33 Justice and Community Services (Charleston, W.Va.) for an effort to reduce overdose deaths each year and to increase the number of individuals referred to, entering, and staying in Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment.
