Carl B. “Sonny” Reynolds, Jr.
Carl B. “Sonny” Reynolds, Jr., 83, of Union, WV, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Lewisburg Health Care Center in Ronceverte. He was born on June 28, 1941, in Sweet Springs, WV. He was the son of the late Carl B. Reynolds, Sr. and Mabel M. Coy Reynolds.
Sonny met Bertha at church and six years later, married the love of his life on June 24, 1965. He worked hard all his life as a farmer; beginning as a young boy at Sarver Farms, then moving on to Park Grove Farm, then to Glen Oak Farms (Eagle Coal & Dock), and retired from Ironside Farms at the age of 77.
He and Bertha enjoyed camping, traveling, and spending time with friends and family, when their health permitted. Sonny was a member of the Fort Spring Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha (Bunny) on January 4, 2024; his parents, Carl and Mabel Reynolds; two sisters, Linda Honaker and Margaret Ann Reynolds; his great nephew, Joshua McCormick; also his father and mothers-in-law, Robert “Bob” and Marie White, of Union, and Martha Thomas of Alderson.
Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl Hawkins (Jim Whitis) of Ronceverte; and adopted grandson, Raymond Whitis (Lynn) of Roanoke, VA; his brother, David (Bobbie) Reynolds of Lewisburg; his sister, Janet Workman of Lewisburg; special niece, Sheila McCormick (Keith) of Lewisburg; and numerous other nieces and nephews; his extended family; and his church family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lewisburg Health Care Center for the wonderful care and compassion they gave to Sonny, during his time there.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at the Fort Springs Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Joey Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens in Lewisburg, WV, with Aaron Hill, John Fullen, Bill Hensley, Dave Hicks, Hunter Sherman, and Garrett McCormick serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the Fort Springs Missionary Baptist Church and also one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.
