Mrs. Lynn Brody
Mrs. Lynn Brody, 83 years old, peacefully passed away at her home November 15, 2024. She is survived by her son, Tryg Brody; and grandchildren, August and Sasha Brody.
In 1941 when Lynn was born, twins were a rarity, and her twin sister, Ms. Lana Lou Patterson, was her best friend. The twins spoke daily for most of their lives. They graduated from high school in 1959 in Macomb, IL. Lynn went on to The University of Illinois for two (2) years, before moving to Chicago in 1961. At the urging of her dad and sister, she moved to The University of Wisconsin to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Dietetics/Nutrition in 1964.
During her college days, Lynn worked in food service at the student union, and her supervisor referred her to work at The Greenbrier Hotel. She arrived in West Virginia in the summer of 1964 to be an intern in The Greenbrier Kitchen, the first woman to work in that type of position at that time. She completed the internship and accepted an offer to be a Convention Services Manager in 1965.
Lynn’s hotel career changed when she met Dr. Arnold J Brody, her husband for nearly fifty (50) years. She worked as a Social Worker for a few years, until her son, Tryg, was born. Lynn transitioned to be a volunteer in numerous organizations: White Sulphur Springs Library Board, Lewisburg Planning Commission and Historic Landmarks Commission, Trustee Old Stone Cemetery, Board Member of The Lewisburg Foundation, and was honored as Lewisburg’s Citizen of the year 2014 and Volunteer of The Year 2018.
One of her favorite projects was working on the beautification of the Lewisburg Post Office; for many years she planted and cared for the flowers. Another community service role for Lynn was helping to bring The American in Bloom Programs to Lewisburg to earn the recognition as a premier destination in their annual international and national competitions.
She faithfully attended Old Stone Presbyterian Church and loved the music shared by the choir. Lynn played an instrumental role in both the development and maintenance of The Columbarium for the Church.
Lynn and Arnold were avid international travelers, snow skiers, tennis players, and their favorite, ball dancing. She also loved the arts and was an accomplished potter, making her favorite long stem wine goblets, sketching, drawing portraits, and paper art. It was also common to see Lynn and Arnold walking the streets of Lewisburg in the evenings. In recent years, Lynn was confined to a wheelchair; she rarely complained and was always excited about the next day to enjoy an activity in Lewisburg.
The funeral service will take place November 19, 2024, at 12 p.m. at The Old Stone Presbyterian Church. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
