The Reverend Lloyd E. Camp
The Reverend Lloyd E. Camp, age 90, of 313 Campsite Lane, White Sulphur Springs, WV, passed into His Heavenly Father’s presence on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. He was the fifth of seven children of Frederick Oliver and Berdie Mae Campbell Camp and was born at Alvon, WV, on October 21, 1934.
Following high school, he served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 and enjoyed flying in the Civil Air Patrol. He received both his Bachelor of Religious Education and Bachelor of Theology from Piedmont Bible College.
Rev. Camp served as a pastor from 1964 to January 2024. He was a pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Clifton Forge, VA, from 1964 to 1984, when he was called to serve as pastor of Maranatha Baptist Church in Anchorage, AK. While there, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. After that, he served Greenbrier Valley Baptist Church, White Sulphur Springs, WV, for 12 years and became a missionary for missionaries who needed a furlough. In this capacity, he served faithfully in several fields including Bay Shore, NY; North Jay, ME; Boise, ID; Peters Creek, AK; Tucson, AZ; Sacramento, CA; Eagle River, AK; Floyd, VA; and twice in Papua New Guinea. He then became pastor of the Anthony Baptist Church in Anthony, WV, until January 2024.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Lloyd Andrew Camp; three brothers, Willard Lake, Oliver Dale, and Theodore Curtis Camp; and one sister, Marceline Camp Callison.
Surviving Lloyd are his wife, Nancy Callison Camp of White Sulphur Springs, WV; four children, Karyl Camp of Roanoke, Rebekah Gainey and husband, Tim, of Lexington, NC, Joel Camp and wife, Stephanie, of Boones Mill, and Susanna Camp and husband, J. D. Newsome, of Boones Mill; two brothers, Eugene Camp and wife, Roxie, of Lewisburg and Glenn Camp and wife, Gail, of White Sulphur; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Camp of Clifton Forge and Okell Camp of White Sulphur; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral service was held on Monday, November 4, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, Clifton Forge, VA, with Reverend Tim Gainey officiating. Interment followed in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor, VA. Military rites were provided by members of the Curtis A. Smith VFW Post 1033. The family received friends on Sunday evening, November 3, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Greenbrier Valley Baptist Church, White Sulphur Springs, WV, and also on Monday, November 4, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at Immanuel Baptist Church.
