RAINELLE W.Va. (WVDN) – If you needed another good reason to drive through the quaint little town of Rainelle, here’s another! But go hungry! Opening in early 2024, Tammy Copenhaver Vandall, her husband Jay and their crew offer up vittles you’d find on the dusty range somewhere in Montana.
After driving through Rainelle one day, the couple noticed very few dining options. Jay Vandall looked at his wife and said, “We need to open a buffet for the families in this area!” And so, they did just that! After driving around town to find a suitable place to feed the masses, Jason Sloan had the ideal spot to rent. After spending thousands on restaurant equipment, Tammy Vandall found herself with nothing to decorate with or a welcoming theme. Being a can-do lady, she simply took decorations from her home and moved them in. See the need, fill the need.
The pictures on the walls are of their horses and the grandkids. What better way to work than to have your family photos surrounding you all day?
Home-cooked food is the masterpiece of Mariessa Jones, a kitchen guru. The delicious buffet consists of tasty meat options like fried chicken or country fried steak, gramma’s slow-cooked green beans, salad and veggies galore. In addition to the nightly buffet, Cowboy Kitchen offers tasty burgers, subs, and hoagies and has cakes and pies to munch or order for later. They also offer toothsome appetizers like “cactus spur or six shooter!” The sides have a catchy name such as “Rodeo Rations.”
Have a family gathering? You can meet here and sit amongst the checkered, chuckwagon tables or have it catered. It’s a perfect spot for those after-church gatherings, a late-night ride home from work, or a casual day meandering through town. There are grab-n-go options, curbside pick-up, or like Tammy likes to say, “Come kick your boots off and stay awhile.”
It’s a delightful way to experience the “other” Wild West when you are surrounded by pretty grandkids donning the attire of a true cowboy; boots, jeans and a well-worn hat. It’s a family affair and they welcome you with open arms.
Stop by, say hi, and stay awhile at 118 Ohio Ave. Rainelle. Call 304-646-6201 for questions or to order. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m., seven days per week. You won’t feel more welcome anywhere else. Now all they need are moonlit horse rides!
