John R. Miller Sr., 84, of Lewisburg, WV, formerly of Ronceverte, WV, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 23, 2020, at the home of his daughter, Carla.

John was born on June 3, 1935, in Lewisburg, and was the son of Matthew and Nellie Bly Seams Miller.

He was a graduate of Bolling High School, a deacon and trustee of the First Baptist Church in Ronceverte, a U.S. Army veteran, had started his working career with Brown’s Transfer, retired as sales supervisor with Bluegrass Electric after 46 years of service, sang with the men’s chorus of the John Wesley United Methodist Church, was a caregiver for his mother in her later years, and was always willing to lend a helping hand when someone was in need.

Other than his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Ruth Carter Miller, in 2018; and two sons-in-law, Maurice Kirby Jr. and Dennis M. Reed.

Surviving are his two daughters, Evangeline Miller Reed of Beckley, WV, and Carla M. Kirby of Lewisburg; his son, John R. Miller Jr. (Robin Hall) of Ronceverte; grandchildren, Isaiah Godfrey, Johnna Miller, Shanelle Kirby, Shyloh Mack, and Chelsea Carter; great-grandchildren, Ezren Rye Moore and Adrian Rae Carter; his brother, James A. Miller of Philadelphia, PA; his best friend, George Lee; and numerous other close friends.

Mr. Miller’s service will be on Saturday February 29, 2020, at 1 p.m. at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte, with the Rev. Greg Scott, Pastor Kathie Holland, and the Rev. Walter Leach officiating.

The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, February 29, 2020, from 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choosing.
