POINT PLEASANT W.Va. (WVDN) – The West Virginia State Police have released a statement after one man was arrested following an arson and attempted murder investigation.
On Saturday, August 10, 2024, S/TprJ.L. Cavender responded to 330 Cherry Drive in Point Pleasant, WV regarding an arson complaint which stemmed from a domestic disturbance. S/Tpr J.L. Cavender learned the suspect, Jason Ray Blankenship, 42 of Point Pleasant, WV, physically assaulted his sister, Terri Lynn Vanhoose on two (2) separate occasions.
Terry Vanhoose sustained injuries from both incidents. Jason Blankenship then allegedly lit the residence on fire while the victim was inside. Tery Vanhoose was able to exit the residence without further injury. S/Tpr. Cavender learned Jason Blankenship had fled the scene following the incident.
S/Tpr J.L. Cavender obtained warrants on Jason Blankenship for Attempted Murder, Malicious Assault and First Degree Arson. The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified.
Later on this same date, Jason Blankenship was apprehended by S/Tpr. M. A. Waugh without incident. Jason Blankenship was transported to the Western Regional Jail awaiting arraignment by a Mason County Magistrate.
