FAIRLEA- Recently graduated Greenbrier East senior Kayla Bartley has made her college choice and will join Spartan teammate Lily Carola at Patrick & Henry Community College to continue her softball career.
Bartley enjoyed an incredible season with the Spartans that ended with a first ever Greenbrier East state tournament appearance. Even though she played for just one year for East, she became a household name and was a critical piece to the Spartans puzzle. She was a standout for Covington High School in 2023 but transferred to Greenbrier East for 2024 instead of playing for the newly formed Alleghany Cougars just across the state line.
A two-way star, Bartley hit .391 this past season with a team-leading six home runs. She also drove in 29 runs and scored 28 more herself. On the mound, she threw 109 innings, scattered 94 hits, and went 8-4. She had 165 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.79 as well.
Bartley and Carola were 1-A and 1-B in the pitcher’s circle and with both heading to the same school for college, they will have an opportunity to extend that distinction at the next level.
