WHITE SULPHUR SPGS- As first reported by the WVDN about a week ago, the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos are each scheduled to spend a week at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur this coming football season.
Both teams have a part in their schedule where they will play two consecutive east coast games. The Chargers, led by quarterback Justin Herbert and new coach Jim Harbaugh, play the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 15 and then go to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers on the 22nd. Rather than fly back to the west coast just to come right back east a week later, they will stay at the Greenbrier and hold their practices there through the week of Sept. 16-20.
The Broncos, who are led by running back Javonte Williams, will be in Tampa Bay on Sept. 22 and then face the New York Jets one week later on the 29th. Their stay at America’s Resort will be from Sept. 23-27.
According to one source, the Chargers still have to finalize a few details before they are 100 percent confirmed to be coming, but all signs point to them staying a week in Greenbrier County.
The Greenbrier started offering NFL teams a weeklong stay a few years ago to accommodate these types of travel situations. The San Francisco 49ers were the first team to do it and have stayed there more than once, and the trend continues to grow each year.
