Roy E. Riddell, also known as Butch, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, April 20, 2019, at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Ronceverte, WV.

Butch was born on January 13, 1945, in Alderson, WV. He was the son of Emma Ballard and step-father, Leonard Ballard.

He attended Alderson High School. He married Audrey Burns Riddell on October 14, 1966, and dedicated his life to providing for his family. Butch worked at Acme Limestone from 1965-1967, then went on to Mead Westvaco in 1967, where he retired in 2007 after 39 years of service.

Butch was musically inclined and could play any instrument by ear. He had a peaceful temperament and a wonderful sense of humor, a characteristic that touched the lives of his family and friends.

Butch is survived by his wife, Audrey of 52 years; three children, Virgil Eugene of Frankford, WV, Carla Bradley (Tommy) of Alderson, WV, and Michael of Alderson; and eight grandchildren, Michael Riddell (Chelsea) of Alderson, Courtney Ringstaff (AJ) of Fairmont, WV, Whitney Bradley, Shawn Riddell, Makayla Riddell, Dustin Bradley of Alderson, Jamie Riddell of Fairmont, and Kynleigh Archer of Talcott, WV.

Butch’s body has been donated to the West Virginia University Medical School in Morgantown, WV.

Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of his life on Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 2-5 p.m. at his home in Alderson.
