The council approved the proclamation making Elder Abuse Awareness Day June 13 each year.
In the message regarding elder abuse, it is an ongoing issue that elders are suffering at the hands of those entrusted to their care. Greenbrier County is adamant about stopping it and raising more awareness of the opportunities to protect our most precious assets.
An awareness walk and wreath laying ceremony were held at Modlin Field in honor of the elderly. Here in West Virginia, and all around the world elders carry priceless memories, ways of life, traditions and precious history in each of them. As rural areas explode with newcomers, it is vital to keep West Virginia’s history, as well as those that made it what it is today, alive and well.
County Prosecutor Patrick Via requested approval for Michelle Vaughn to be the newest Victim’s Services Coordinator for the county. A new county employee handbook is in the works as well. Bart Baker with the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department also introduced a new officer, Joshua Doss.
In closing, since the county government is on the same schedule as the state offices, all county government offices will be closed on June 19 in observance of Juneteenth and June 20 in observance of West Virginia Day.
