FAIRLEA- Last week, on the baseball field they have called home for the past few years and with family and friends by their sides, Greenbrier East baseball’s Peyton DeHaven and Gabe Patton sat down at a table and signed their national letters of intent to continue their playing careers at the next level.

DeHaven, a center fielder, is heading to Concord, and Patton, a pitcher/infielder, will trek to North Carolina and play for Barton College.

DeHaven hit.293 this past season with six doubles. He drove in eight runs and scored 26, which led the team. He also led the Spartans with 13 stolen bases and is a sure-handed defensive player as well.

Patton, the WVDN overall male athlete of the year, showed a batting average of .283 with five doubles and a home run. He knocked in 12 runs and scored 22. On the pitcher’s mound, Patton went 4-3 in 46 innings of work. He sported a 3.65 ERA and had 35 strikeouts.

Both players are currently playing for the Beckley Post 32 American Legion baseball team along with former teammate Gavin Bennett.

Good luck to DeHaven and Patton at the college level.
