FAIRLEA- Greenbrier East senior Lily Carola had an extraordinary year on the softball field. From the pitcher’s mound to first base to the batter’s box, Carola was stellar in all areas.
However, she may have saved her best for last–literally.
Carola was named to the All-Tournament team in Charleston after her two impressive performances in the state tournament to University and Cabell Midland.
The Spartans lost both games, but there was a feeling around Little Creek Park that East arguably had the hottest team in the tournament at the time. The Spartans let two 5-run leads evaporate in the latter stages of both contests leaving many to wonder ‘what if’ had the ball bounced a little better and with a little more luck.
Carola went 3-4 with a homerun and two doubles against the Hawks of University. She also scored a run and drove in four more. She added a double against Cabell Midland and on the pitcher’s mound, allowed just two earned runs in six innings with five strikeouts.
The honor of making the All-Tournament team was well deserved and a nice way for Carola to end her Lady Spartan career.
