FRANKFORD W.Va. (WVDN) – The Ladies of the Henning Church of God held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 14, in the church fellowship hall. President Carole Spencer presided and Marty Burns led in prayer. They released the following report:
“Dyan Hefner shared about your purse being used as a weapon. It is a bag used to carry everyday items that you may need at any time. Debbie Sammons shared a story in which her purse was used as a weapon. Ephesians 6:17 says, ‘Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.’ The sword of God is the only offensive weapon we are given. The sword of God is like our purse, we have anything and everything we need in it. Hebrews 4:12 says, ‘For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.’ The two-edged sword cuts both ways and it is the greatest weapon against the enemy. It can help in battles and trials. Learn scripture and use it in times of need. It brings comfort to our hearts. Read the Bible every day. Some read in the morning and some read in the evening. Satan will try to side-track you from reading the Bible. In Luke 10:4, Jesus told his disciples to take no money, no knapsack or sandals, and greet no one on the road. In Luke 22:36, Jesus told his disciples, ‘But now if you have a purse, take it and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.’ The power of his sword is his word. Most people take their purses wherever they go. We need to embrace, read and put his word in our minds. His word is important and we need to use it as a weapon to fight against evil.
“Carole Spencer presented the missionary education report about Larry and Leann Sellers, missionaries to the Ivory Coast. Larry was born in Texas, but most of his years were spent in France and Algeria. He attended Gulf Coast Bible College and Anderson School of Theology. He received degrees in music, missions, and religion. Leann was raised in Florida and attended Gulf Coast Bible College and received a degree in elementary education. They started out as missionaries in Haiti in 1985 and have lived in seven different countries on three continents. They lived in many hazardous conditions. They began their term in 1996 on the Ivory Coast. They create strategies for French-speaking churches. They also teach at the West African Bible Institute and develop French literature for the church in Africa. Leann oversees in women’s work, a literacy program, and Christian education. They recently moved 30 minutes from the airport and plan to help a new generation of African Christians with their work.
“Jamie Harvey gave the treasurer’s report and Pauline Perkins read last month’s minutes.
