WASHINGTON, D.C. (WVDN) — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced resources from several federal agencies for projects that will bolster health services, economic development, infrastructure, education programs, environmental cleanup, and public housing projects across West Virginia.

HHS FUNDING: Senator Capito, Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS), announced grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for a variety of health projects in West Virginia.

  • $1,682,082 in HHS Health Center Program funding to Community Health Systems, Inc. (Beckley, W.Va.).

 

  • $1,530,210 in HHS Head Start Program funding to Raleigh County Community Action Association, Inc. (Beckley, W.Va.).

 

  • $1,498,234 in HHS Health Center Program funding to Cabin Creek Health Systems, Inc. (Dawes, W.Va.).

 

  • $1,266,707 in HHS Health Center Program funding to Wirt County Health Services Association, Inc. (Elizabeth, W.Va.).

 

  • $1,266,238 in HHS Health Center Program funding to the Monroe County Health Department (Union, W.Va.).

 

  • $1,202,932 in HHS Health Center Program funding to Lincoln County Primary Care Center, Inc. (Hamlin, W.Va.).

 

  • $1,196,096 in HHS Health Center Program funding to Change, Inc. (Weirton, W.Va.).

 

  • $1,184,522 in HHS Health Center Program funding to Rainelle Medical Center, Inc. (Rainelle, W.Va.).

 

  • $1,109,402 in HHS Health Center Program funding to Tug River Health Association, Inc. (Gary, W.Va.).

 

  • $1,076,239 in HHS Head Start Program funding to PRIDE Community Services, Inc. (Logan, W.Va.).

 

  • $228,000 in HHS funding to WVU (Morgantown, W.Va.) for aging research.

 

ARC FUNDING: Senator Capito, Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, also announced administrative grants from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) she secured for two economic regional development councils.

  • $102,479 in ARC administrative grant funding to funding to the Region 5 Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Planning and Development Council (Parkersburg, W.Va.).

 

  • $98,959 in ARC administrative grant funding to funding to Region 4 Regional Planning and Development Council (Summersville, W.Va.).

 

DOL FUNDING: As Ranking Member of the Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee, Senator Capito announced that the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has awarded a YouthBuild grant, a program that supports pre-apprenticeship training for young people ages 16-24, to the Randolph County Housing Authority, for which she has been a long champion.

  • $1,265,000 in DOL YouthBuild grant funding to the Randolph County Housing Authority (Elkins, W.Va.) to help prepare young West Virginians for jobs in construction and other high demand industries.

 

DOT FUNDING: Senator Capito, a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (T-HUD), helped secure two grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), one for West Virginia University (WVU), and another for the Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority.

  • $6,400,000 in DOT grant funding to WVU (Morgantown, W.Va.) for the Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) Passenger Stations and Guideway Project.

 

  • $1,000,000 in DOT grant funding to the Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority (Charleston, W.Va.) for the Facility Replacement Project.

 

HUD FUNDING: Senator Capito, a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (T-HUD), helped secure a tranche of grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Capital Fund Program that aim to help Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) repair and improve public housing units.

  • $3,235,664 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Charleston-Kanawha Housing Authority (Charleston, W.Va.).

 

  • $2,146,774 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Huntington, W.Va.

 

  • $1,616,306 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Wheeling, W.Va.

 

  • $888,344 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Clarksburg-Harrison Housing Authority (Clarksburg, W.Va.).

 

  • $868,900 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Martinsburg, W.Va.

 

  • $740,674 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Williamson, W.Va.

 

  • $716,629 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Beckley, W.Va.

 

  • $631,491 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Moundsville, W.Va.

 

  • $569,855 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Grafton, W.Va.

 

  • $508,337 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Bluefield, W.Va.

 

  • $486,340 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the County of Jackson (Ripley, W.Va.).

 

  • $486,143 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Parkersburg, W.Va.

 

  • $479,603 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of Benwood and McMechen, W.Va.

 

  • $447,855 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Fairmont-Morgantown Housing Authority (Fairmont, W.Va.).

 

  • $435,668 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Mount Hope, W.Va.

 

  • $422,832 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Point Pleasant, W.Va.

 

  • $374,292 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Rock Springs, W.Va. Housing Authority.

 

  • $337,385 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Spencer, W.Va.

 

  • $325,337 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of South Charleston, W.Va.

  • $162,669 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of Raleigh County (Beckley, W.Va.).

 

  • $140,602 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of Mingo County (Delbarton, W.Va.).

 

  • $138,461 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Weston, W.Va.

 

  • $136,278 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the Town of Douglas, W.Va.

 

  • $87,215 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Buffalo, W.Va.

 

  • $78,499 in HUD Capital Fund Program grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Casper, W.Va.

 

USDA FUNDING: Senator Capito also delivered funding that she fought to secure in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Partners Network to Generation West Virginia to support high-speed internet expansion projects in Lincoln, McDowell, Webster, and Fayette Counties. Senator Capito also secured funding for a rural economic development project.

  • $597,000 in USDA Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal grant for White Oak Public Service District (PSD) (Scarbro, W.Va.) to modernize the White Oak PSD wastewater treatment plant, including the removal of the secondary biological treatment bypass and providing additional treatment capacity.

 

  • $500,000 in USDA Rural Development Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) grant funding to W.A. Wilson and Sons, Inc. (Wheeling, W.Va.) to purchase and install an energy efficient glass tempering furnace.

 

  • $489,717 in USDA Rural Development REAP grant funding to Mountain Linen Service, LLC (Slatyfork, W.Va.) to purchase and install energy-efficient washing equipment.

 

  • $259,053 in USDA Rural Development REAP grant funding to Tolliver Enterprises, LLC (Huntington, W.Va.) to purchase and install an energy-efficient solar array.

 

  • $91,305 in USDA Rural Development REAP grant funding to Tri-Data, Inc. (Huntington, W.Va.) to purchase and install an energy-efficient solar array.

 

  • $65,695 in USDA Rural Development REAP grant funding to Rhodes Enterprises, LLC (Morgantown, W.Va.) to purchase and install an energy-efficient solar array.

 

  • $36,905 in USDA Rural Development REAP grant funding to Workingman’s Family Store, LLC (Huntington, W.Va.) to purchase and install an energy-efficient solar array.

 

  • $29,931 in USDA Rural Development REAP grant funding to Laurel Creek Hardwoods, Inc. (Richwood, W.Va.) to purchase and install more energy-efficient equipment.

 

  • $18,615 in USDA Rural Development Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) grant funding to Bonazzo and Suesli Real Estate, LLC (Gassaway, W.Va.) to purchase and install an energy-efficient solar array.

 

  • $14,103 in USDA Rural Development REAP grant funding to MAS ventures WV, LLC (Great Cacapon, W.Va.) to purchase and install an energy-efficient solar array.

 

  • $2,544 in USDA Rural Development REAP grant funding to Sustainable Solutions, LLC (Shepherdstown, W.Va.) to purchase and install fiberglass insulation.

 

EDA FUNDING: Senator Capito, a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, announced an award from the U.S. Economic Development Administration for continued rehabilitation of the former Vossloh site in Charleston, W.Va.

  • $3,431,000 EDA award to Advantage Valley, Inc. (Charleston, W.Va.) to continue rehabilitation of the former Vossloh site in Charleston, including renovations to the roofing, weatherproofing, replacement of exterior overhead doors, fire protection upgrades, bathroom upgrades, lighting upgrades, and appurtenances.

 

NIST FUNDING: Senator Capito also secured a grant from the Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program to create models that aim to improve energy efficiency in home appliances.

  • $106,500 NIST award to Universal Schedule and Booking, LLC (Harper’s Ferry, W.Va.) to investigate modeling software, perform tasks to model home efficiency results, and collect data for mechanical equipment used in residential homes.

 

DOI FUNDING: Senator Capito, a member of the Senate Appropriations Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Subcommittee, also announced formula grant funding from the Department of the Interior (DOI) to plug orphaned wells in West Virginia. This funding was included in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which Senator Capito helped author.

  • $29,200,000 in DOI IIJA formula grant funding to the state of West Virginia to plug orphaned wells.

 

NPS FUNDING: Senator Capito also announced funding from the National Parks Service (NPS) State and Tribal Historic Preservation Offices in West Virginia.

  • $880,133 in NPS Historic Preservation grant funding to the West Virginia State Historic Preservation Office.

 

NEIGHBORWORKS FUNDING: Senator Capito also announced funding from NeighborWorks America to two West Virginia organizations aiming to address community development and affordable housing challenges in West Virginia.

  • $212,000 in NeighborWorks grant funding to HomeOwnership Center, Inc. (Elkins, W.Va.).

 

  • $172,000 in NeighborWorks grant funding to CommunityWorks in West Virginia, Inc. (Charleston, W.Va.).
