RAINELLE W.Va. (WVDN) – There is a new eatery in town, and the owner, Kim Thompson, is set up and waiting for you to come to enjoy her down-home cooking! A true testament to the cozy, comfort food that you will find at Grandma’s house, with the same love and deliciousness you can only find in a home kitchen in Appalachia.

Formerly housing J’eet Yet on Main Street in Rainelle, Thompson opened her doors in late February. Since then, people have flocked in to fill the hunger void and to indulge in a real homestyle experience. Serving hearty breakfast choices all day, Mimi’s Brunch Cafe also has a full menu, a weekend buffet and takeaway. The menu has delicious items such as buffalo chicken cheese dip served with naan or fried green tomatoes for starters. Stuffed full sandwich choices include burgers, fried bologna or tasty hot dogs. Homemade soups, subs and salads are available along with a children’s menu.

On weekends you can pull up a seat to enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet of items such as meat loaf, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, fall-off-the-bone ham, beef stroganoff or a green bean casserole. A fresh and beautiful salad bar and homemade desserts like pie, cobblers and cakes are also available. Some hard-to-find and sought-after dishes she is most proud of are her chicken and dumplings and banana pudding.

Thompson makes every bit of it by hand and takes pride in every dish she serves. You will certainly feel at home having a meal here. You can also get takeaway on those nights you don’t feel like cooking for your family. They will give you a big box to fill from the buffet for just $14, along with a small box for salad. Call ahead to order menu items.

Whether you’re dining in or taking it home, the feel-good comfort food is already a hit with locals. Thompson says, “There wasn’t much here for people to eat, so I decided I would open up to see how it would go. We’ve already sold out many nights, and I am very grateful for the support and love. [We hope lots more people stop in.]”

Mimi’s Brunch Cafe is located at 617 Main St., Rainelle, and is open Monday-Wednesday, menu items only; closed Thursdays; and Friday and Saturday, menu items from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; then an all-you-can-eat buffet from 4-8 p.m. On Sunday you can enjoy the all-you-can-eat buffet from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. A perfect after-church gathering place or pick up for a day trip out.

Call ahead orders can be placed at 304-438-1067 and you can follow Thompson’s on Facebook to see daily specials and more.
