NICOLAS COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – One fatality has been reported after a vehicle struck a parked log truck in Nicholas County. The West Virginia State Police released the following statement:
“On Friday, March 29, 2024, at approximately 9:05 pm, Tpr. A.L. Shaffer was dispatched by the Nicholas County 911 to a vehicle striking a parked log truck adjacent to Route 19 near the crest of Powells Mountain, near Birch River.
“The initial investigation revealed David Alan Erikson was operating a 2022 Nissan rental vehicle South on Route 19 and struck an unloaded and unoccupied 2005 International Log Hauler, which was parked adjacent to the roadway with a warning flag displayed.
“David Erikson, 53 of Eighty Four, Pennsylvania was pronounced deceased on scene. The State Police Accident Reconstruction Coordinator and the WV DOT were advised of this incident. The status of this investigation remains active and ongoing.”
