I’m a fifth-generation West Virginian, having grown up in Charleston and making my home in Lewisburg. I completed my education here, receiving a master’s degree in Counseling from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. I have spent my career in service to others, first as a member of a reconnaissance unit in Vietnam in the United States Army and later as a provider of mental health services to children, adults, people with disabilities, as well as fellow veterans. I am now seeking to serve the citizens of southern West Virginia as a congressman from the 1st Congressional District.
My years of service have given me an intimate look at the needs of the citizens of our state. I have a deep understanding of the obstacles faced by our state’s workers, be they coal miners with black lung, veterans seeking earned compensation for their injuries, or people trying to support themselves and their families in low-paying jobs.
Little attention has been given to the real problems facing West Virginians: addictive drug use, rampant underemployment, child-care shortages, and access to health care. I have devoted my adult life to being a problem solver, and I will work for you in Washington to address the real issues facing West Virginians.
