LEWISBURG- First reported by the West Virginia Daily News this past Sunday morning, Lewisburg Elementary student Ella Hamric has received quite the publicity since.

Hamric won the West Virginia Elks Hoop Shoot Competition Championship for the 8–9-year-old division and advances to the regionals next month in Charlottesville (March 8-10).

Hamric, the younger sister of Greenbrier East football and basketball player, Brody Hamric, and daughter of Jon and Hilary, drained 22-of-25 shots to secure the state title last weekend.

Brody is almost seven years older than his sister, so she has been around sports all her life and has picked up on the tendencies that come with them.

“I have spent so much time in the gym with my brother,” Ella said when asked how she can shoot free throws so well.

“My dad also taught me the right technique for shooting,” she added.

Speaking of her father, he said Ella is a great listener and she benefits from that in the gym.

“Ella is a rule follower and everything she does she gives full effort. This seems to benefit her with her foul shot routine,” Jon said.

Ella’s mom also backed up those words with some of her own.

“Ella has always been strong mentally and physically,” Hilary concluded.

The WVDN will have an update on Ella after she competes in the regional competition.

Some photos of Ella are below–all photos courtesy of Ella’s parents.
