LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) — Nestled in the heart of downtown Lewisburg is a new shop, Villains Comics, owned by Derrek and Harrison Marcus. They opened their doors on Oct. 5, 2023, offering a niche that the community has longed for. Specializing in Pokémon trading cards, sports cards and memorabilia, vintage game consoles, and comics, Villains Comics is more than just a store; it’s a haven for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The owners, who are Lewisburg natives, describe the shop as filling a void within the community. “Just something that the community was missing. I talked to my brother, and it seemed like a natural fit to open a shop,” co-owner Derrek said. Their connection to the area runs deep, having grown up and roamed the streets of Lewisburg as kids, Derrek and Harrison are now contributing to its local business scene.

Lewisburg, known for its vibrant foot traffic and as a central hub for surrounding areas, was the ideal location for such an establishment. “Lewisburg is definitely the best place for our shop,” co-owner Harrison remarked, emphasizing the town’s significance in the region.

The inspiration for the shop stemmed from a childhood hobby that rekindled into a business venture. “Since I was a kid, I’ve been collecting Pokémon cards back when they came out in the 90s,” said Derrek. After rediscovering an old binder of Pokémon cards and completing the set as an adult, the passion was reignited, leading to the creation of Villains Comics.

The shop not only caters to Pokémon enthusiasts but also features a range of collectibles, including memorabilia from popular media such as ‘Breaking Bad’, courtesy of Harrison who is in the movie industry and manages the comics side of the business. “Really we’re just collectors,” they added, highlighting the personal connection to the items they sell.

Villain Comics is open from Thursday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with appointments available on other days. The owners encourage visitors to reach out, “Our number is 304-647-8300, or visit our Facebook and Instagram pages at Villainous Comics LLC.”

For those unable to visit in person, Villain Comics has an eBay shop Villains Comics LLC, catering to a global community of collectors.
