Charles Bernard Ridgeway, 90, of Union, WV, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea, WV.
Born September 5, 1927, at Fort Spring, WV, he was the son of George Holly and Mary Jane Hutchison Ridgeway.
Charles was known to be a hard worker all his life. He began working for the railroad soon after high school. Shortly following his marriage to Catherine, he worked several years for the West Virginia Division of Forestry. He later worked on the West Virginia Turnpike and also helped on the Sutton Dam. Charles and his wife owned and operated the Wagon Wheel Motel in Morristown, TN, for 10 years. Charles was a cement mason and cattle farmer. He was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl Holly, Carl Leonard, George Herman, and Robert Lee; and one sister, Ethel Marie.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Catherine Marie Price Ridgeway of Union; six sons, Charles L. Ridgeway and wife, Susan, of Union, Chester B. Ridgeway and wife, Sue, of Alderson, WV, George L. Ridgeway and wife, Jan, of Tome, NM, Rick L. Ridgeway and wife, Patricia, of Union, Jeff Ridgeway and wife, Kim, of Pickaway, WV, and James R. Ridgeway and wife Kerrie of Union; one daughter, Shelby J. Dennis and husband, Bob, of Union; two sisters, Mary J. Persinger of Organ Cave, WV, and Nancy Morgan of Ronceverte, WV; many loving grandchildren; many precious great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018, at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Union.
Friends may call Friday, May 25, from 6–8 p.m. at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
