SWEET SPRINGS RESORT PARK (WVDN) – What a great spring had at the park. A lot of work was accomplished – rooms cleaned for demolition, more landscaping work, more repairs to various buildings, new rack cards, advertising flyers ordered, activity items purchased (horseshoes, corn hole, tug of war official rope, and some children’s play equipment) to help make the park better for picnics and during events. The new road sign was designed, built and hung, got some new tables for the hotel front porch for guests & picnic visitors, and so much more. Organizers are working to make the “outdoor” park better for visitors and travelers while also working on the hotel and other buildings.
Keep in mind the Lewis House Bed & Breakfast is open for business. Rent 1 room or a whole house. Great for reunions, weddings, visiting family and special events.
On JULY 21-23 The Annual Fling at the Springs 2-day Music Festival will take place at Sweet Springs Park (located between Union West Virginia and Covington Virginia, on Route 3 and Route 311 …. GPS is: 1 Jefferson Lane, Sweet Springs W.Va.).
There will be 2 days of music, food, fun and games. There will be:
- Tug of War
- Horseshoes
- Corn Hole & children’s games – both days.
- Union Fire Department will be attending.
- A Chainsaw Competition (bring your own saw – must use all safety equipment like glasses, gloves, knee protection, etc., to compete) Saturday
- Wood Chopping Competition (bring your own axe and all safety equipment to compete) Saturday
Prizes for 1st & 2nd place … Ribbons for 3rd & 4th place.
Do you have an antique car or tractor? Muscle car? Motorcycle? Bring it to the Fling. The first 20 vehicles or tractors to arrive receive a Ribbon (to those that will be here both days).
Rustic Camping available – tent or camper …. no hookups but plenty of water
$10.00 per night … Friday & Saturday night
Fling entrance …. Come Friday and pay for both Fri & Sat …. $30.00 a carload
Just Friday or Saturday night (1 night) $20.00 per CARLOAD
Bring a chair or blanket …. you can bring food & beverages
Legal beverages are allowed but must be drunk out of dark glass. We encourage anyone drinking to have a designated driver OR camp on the grounds for the night(s).
Designated drivers get free beverages (ONLY designated drivers – wristband will be provided when parking).
We need Volunteers to help with parking and events. The first 5 people/couples that agree to volunteer for both days get free entry to Fling. You will still hear the music, and events will be over by early evening, 5 p.m. Volunteers can participate in events as well.
Are you a food vendor? Arts & crafts vendor? Sell art? Have some nice yard sale items? Come set up at the Fling! All welcome (Food Vendors must have a Monroe County permit from the Health Department – Contact the Monroe County Health Department at 304-772-3064 and tell them you need your food permit by Thursday, July 20 – there is a permit fee. Aaron Withrow, Monroe County Sanitarian, has graciously agreed to give permits at this late date. Must also have a food handlers permit. Free food handlers class at the Union WV Library on Thursday, July 20, at 1 p.m.
Call 304-772-4067 to reserve a spot. Arrive 15 minutes early for paperwork. You can get your permit and food handlers on the same day.
