FAIRLEA, WV- Senior day events took place on Saturday, April 29 at the Spartan softball field when they recognized Lindsey Black, Josi Ervin and Olivia Plybon.
The game did not last that long.
Seventh-ranked East defeated Pikeview 15-0 in just two-a-half-innings to conclude their regular season on a high note ahead of this Tuesday’s sectional opener.
After Jo. Ervin struck out the side to open the game, the Spartans came to the plate with thoughts of ending the contest early. Jo. Ervin started things off with a double, then after a couple walks and pop outs, Plybon hit a 2-run single that scored Ervin and Taylor Boswell. The next batter, Gracie Gumm ripped a single to center that scored Alanis McClary and Plybon, and East led 4-0. Then, Hailey Ervin got an RBI double, Ally Martin singled home a run, and two batters later, Black smacked an RBI double. When everything was settled, it was the Spartans holding an 8-0 lead after one.
The Lady Panthers quickly went down in order again and the Spartans bats were back in the bottom of the second.
Lily Carola singled then scored on a Plybon sac fly. Martin got a sac fly a couple batters as well later, and three runs scored two batters after that when Black reached on an error. The final nail in the coffin was from Boswell who blasted a 2-run home run to left field, and the Spartans wrapped up their final game in style.
East finished the year by winning their last two games by a total score of 38-0. They will head into sectional play with a lot of positives at their backs.
Plybon had three RBIs. Gumm, Martin and Boswell each had two. Every Spartan that batted had a hit except for McClary, but she walked twice.
Jo. Ervin put up a seven strikeout, no-hit performance in three innings pitched.
East ends the regular season at 19-4
Pikeview finished with just one win on the season.
The Lady Spartans will play Oak Hill this Tuesday night, May 2 at home in the Region 3, Section 2 first round.
