RONCEVERTE, W.Va. (WVDN) – A Ronceverte family is celebrating after winning “America’s Funniest Home Videos” with a father-daughter prank. In a viral video filmed over the holidays, Madison Boswell calls her father, Joey Boswell, and engages in a conversation that ultimately changes their lives.
The video depicts Madison Boswell sitting in her vehicle with her dad on speakerphone. She tells him she put the new “Christmas gas” in her car. If you have been to a gas station, you are likely familiar with the different nozzle handles on the pumps. Any station that offers diesel has pumps dedicated to that fuel type. Generally, diesel is marked by a green handle.
Madison Boswell kept insisting that she used the green handle, which she continued to refer to as the new “Christmas gas.” Her father realized she was talking about diesel and thought she had ruined her car. It was not difficult to convince her dad. She said, “He knows I’m a blonde, so he kinda thinks I would do something like that anyway. It all just kinda went together, and he’s very gullible.”
Eventually, she posted the video on TikTok, where it went viral. At the time of this writing, the video has almost 80,000 “likes” and 1,500 comments.
It was Madison Boswell’s idea to submit the video to “America’s Funniest Home Videos” which she has been watching since childhood. She said, “Ever since I was little, I have always watched the show at my grandparents’ house. I’ve never watched anywhere else.
“Over Christmas break, I was at my grandparents’ house watching the show, and my video had already gone viral on TikTok. I jokingly was like, ‘I’m gonna submit this video.’ We were all just kind of laughing, and we were like, ‘Yeah, you’re probably not going to get it because of all the cussing in it.’
“I submitted it, and then a month went by, and I was here at college. I got a phone call from a California number, and usually I don’t answer spam calls, but I answered, and she was like, ‘Hey, this is Meg from “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”‘ I started stuttering, and I couldn’t believe it.”
Joey Bozwell spoke about the prank, noting that he believed for several hours she had put diesel in her vehicle. After Madison Bozwell kept talking about the “green nozzle,” he said he realized she was talking about the diesel nozzle. He said, “For hours, I thought she was serious.”
When talking about their experience on “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” Joey Boswell said, “It was neat, obviously, getting to see Alfonzo and the famous people and all that. It was a lot of fun. It’ll be an experience you’ll never forget, nor will I.”
Madison Bozwell noted, “I couldn’t really believe it. It was very surreal. It was really fun. Alfonzo, he was so funny. He was fun to work with. All the producers there, and they were so much fun to work with. They walked us through everything because we had to film it at home. It was a lot of fun.”
As a note to the community, Joey Bozwell said, “Enjoy life to the fullest because tomorrow is not promised.” Madison Bozwell added, if someone has a funny video they are considering submitting, “Give it a shot. It doesn’t hurt to try!”
The original video is available to watch on TikTok, and the “America’s Funniest Home Videos” clip is on the AFV website.
