HINTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – Community members, senators, city officials and more gathered at 105 Grace Street in Hinton to celebrate the groundbreaking for the Batteau Beach at Hinton Landing project. Two U.S. senators, Shelley Moore Capito and Joe Manchin, both of whom supported this project, were present.

Not long ago, the city of Hinton announced that Manchin had aided officials in securing $500,000 through Congressionally Directed Spending. These funds were earmarked for the Hinton Landing project. On Monday, a groundbreaking ceremony took place at the Batteau Beach location. Manchin said this project will “help showcase our beautiful state to the world while preserving Hinton’s rich history.”

Capito, another supporter of the project, said, “This is a critical aspect in making Hinton a true destination that appeals to more tourists and visitors alike!”

In addition to the dignitaries present, a group of students from the Summers County Comprehensive High School Careers in Education CTE program also attended. The group of young ladies helped serve lunch to the crowd of attendees after the groundbreaking. They also had the opportunity to meet both senators. School officials noted that students showed initiative and did a “fantastic job representing SCCHS.”

Local business Hinton Outfitters provided some of its beautiful prints as souvenirs for the senators to remember their time in the picturesque town.

Work will now begin on Batteau Beach at Hinton Landing.
