Dr. Douglas Mark Cerasoli, 50, died Thursday, June 15, 2017, at University of Maryland Upper Cheasapeake Medical Center, Bel Air, MD.
Douglas was born in Arlington, MA, grew up in West Chester, PA, and was enrolled in Westtown Friends School, along with his brothers and future wife, Nina.
Following undergraduate studies at Harvard University, Dr. Cerasoli completed his graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania with a Ph.D. in immunology, followed by postdoctoral studies at the University of Maryland. He pursued a career in medical research with the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense in Aberdeen, MD, where his scientific and leadership contributions have been substantial.
Douglas’ life was never about himself. It was dedicated to his children, his extended family, and his career responsibilities, including an incredible legacy as mentor to a great number of young students and scientists. Seeing any need whatsoever, Douglas was always there with “I’ll take care of that,” seemingly with no limit to energy or love.
Douglas was preceded in death by his brother, Michael.
He is survived by Nina, his wife of 25 years; his children, Rebecca, Mark, and Max; his parents, Roger and LewAnne of White Sulphur Springs, WV; his brothers, Roger Jr. and wife, Lynn, of Newnan, GA, and Stephen and fiancee, Lucy, of Raleigh, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
Well beyond the family, his loss leaves an emptiness that reflects the gift that his life was to all of us.
On Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at 10:30 AM, a service of remembrance is to take place at Little Falls Friends Meeting (https://littlefallsfriends.org) at 719 Old Fallston Road, Fallston, MD.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in memory of Douglas Cerasoli to Friends School of Harford, 2230 Rock Spring Road, Forest Hill, MD 21050 or online at www.fshmd.org/ways-to-give.
