Coy B. Linton, Jr.

Coy B. Linton, Jr., 84, passed away peacefully at home in Waynesboro, VA, on Saturday, March 11, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born in Paint Bank, VA, on November 29, 1938, to Coy B. Linton, Sr. and Effie Frances Mottesheard Linton.

At eighteen months of age, his family relocated to Greenbrier County, WV, where he grew up and attended school in Organ Cave, WV. He was a graduate of Greenbrier High School in Ronceverte, WV, where he met his high school sweetheart, Cora Sue Elmore of Fort Springs, WV. They were married on June 5, 1959, in Ronceverte. Mr. Linton passed three months shy of celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary.

With a thirty two year tenure, Coy retired from DuPont in Waynesboro, VA. While simultaneously working shift work at DuPont, his passion was the 1973 purchase and thorough renovation, of an historic 1908 dream property affectionately named the 5L20 Farm. Among his fondest endeavors was restoring old tractors, including his cherished Case 470 tractor handed down to him by his father.

He enjoyed motorcycle riding, listening to his children sing and play music, along with spending time with family and friends. He was a longstanding member of Cornerstone Church of Augusta, where he was an usher and enjoyed greeting congregants, because he never met a stranger. Coy was an advocate for ComfortCare Women’s Health of Waynesboro.

In addition to his parents, Coy was preceded in death by his brother, Marlin Linton of Organ Cave, WV; niece, Michele Linton of Lewisburg, WV; daughter, Robin Linton of Waynesboro, VA; brother-in-law, Bill Elmore of Stuarts Draft, VA; and grandson, Jeremy Hamilton of Fishersville, VA.

In addition to his wife, Cora Sue, Coy is survived by his brother, Jerry Linton and partner, Betty McGurty of Lewisburg, WV; daughter, Cindy Linton-Andrews and husband, Mike of Elkton, VA; son, Scott Linton and sweetheart, Laurie Chandler of Dooms, VA; grandchildren, Nikki Hydrick of Birmingham, AL, Megen Hydrick Tilley and husband, Michael of Hattiesburg, MS, Jessica Hall and husband, Billy of Dinwiddie, VA, Josh Hamilton and wife, Denise of Fishersville, VA; great-grandchildren, Blake Anderson, Haven and Colton Hall, Addy, Emmy, and Luka Tilley, Gracie Hamilton, Madison and Michaela Humphreys; in-laws, John and Jo Ann Elmore, Venecia Arbaugh, and Josephine Mullins, all of Stuarts Draft, VA, Linda Cohernour of Amherst, VA; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please consider sending memorial contributions to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, PO Box 37, Verona, VA 24482 or online at www.brafb.org.

A ‘Celebration of Life’ memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Cornerstone Church of Augusta, 1156 Tinkling Spring Road, Staunton, VA.

Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.charltonandgroome funeralhome.com.

Charlton and Groome Funeral Home and Crematory, 619 Lifecore Drive in Fishersville, VA, is warmly in charge of his arrangements.
