UNION (WVDN) – A Monroe County man is lodged in Southern Regional Jail after being arrested for soliciting a minor.
Jeffrey Scott Cline, 57, was arrested on Monday, Jan. 30, and charged with one count of soliciting a minor via computer, soliciting a minor and traveling to engage the minor in prohibited sexual activity and use of obscene matter with the intent to seduce a minor.
The investigation was completed by Sergeant S.S. Keaton with the West Virginia State Police, who according to reports, received a complaint about Cline attempting to start an online relationship with an underage girl.
Keaton set up a sting operation, posing as the underage girl, luring Cline into communicating, sharing explicit messages and setting up a meeting in Wayside, Monroe County.
When Cline arrived at the meeting place, he was met by state troopers and arrested without incident.
Cline was arraigned and is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
