Jay Ronald Cales Sr., 78, of White Sulphur Springs, WV, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA, after a short illness.
Jay was born September 29, 1937, to Lottie Mae Ballengee Cales and Clyde Cecil Cales.
Jay was a 50-plus year member of Union Local 491 and Local 10. He was assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 51 in White Sulphur Springs for several years, worked with Little League baseball, and coached a women’s softball team. He loved going 4-wheeling with his friends, bluegrass music, and camping at Sherwood Lake with his family. He especially loved his two cocker spaniels, Molly and Penny.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Hanna; and seven brothers, Eugene, Hershey, Kenneth, Richard, Roy, Jerry, and Rodger Cales.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Lenore McMillion Cales; two daughters, Nancy Lynn Tuckwiller (Kevin) of Lewisburg, WV, and Cathy Denise Blaylock (Billy) of Princeton, WV, one son, Jay Ronald Cales Jr. (Gina) of Hurricane, WV; grandchildren, Matthew Flood, Luke and Sam Cales, Billy Blaylock, J.R., Phillip, and Mark Tuckwiller, Amber Tuckwiller, Jessica Tuckwiller, and Kim Blaylock; great-grandchildren, Jack Blaylock, Sophia Tuckwiller, and Hamilton Van Buren; two sisters, Clydene Vaughan (Frank) of Columbus, MS, and Fran Vaughan (Sam) of Rocky Mount, VA; also a special young friend, Brent Boggs of Atlanta.
Visitation will be from 11 AM-1 PM on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs.
Services will be at 1 PM with Pastor Shari Dawn Stilgenbauer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Greenbrier Humane Society.
