Michael Dale Dowdy, 36, of Caldwell, WV, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015, following injuries sustained in a logging accident.

Born August 5, 1978, at Fairlea, WV, he was the son of Lewis and Dorothy Boggs Dowdy of Glace, WV.

Mike was a 1997 graduate of James Monroe High School in Lindside, Monroe County, WV. He played football and baseball all his life. He was a kind-hearted man who would do anything for anyone who needed him. He was always very happy and always made time for his wife and kids. Mike was a great father and loved playing with his kids. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and working on his home. He was a logger and loved being in the woods. He really enjoyed being involved with his kids’ sports, such as football, baseball, and cheerleading.

Mike and his wife, Sara, had been together for 16 years and married for 11 years. They enjoyed working together, either in the woods on job sites or on their home. They would do many different things together, such as movies, flea marketing, tennis, dinner dates, and many more great activities to spend time with one another. Over their years together, they made and shared many great memories ‒ ones that will always hold a special place in Sara’s heart and their kids.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Melvin and Fay Dowdy, and his maternal grandparents, Dwight and Rema Boggs.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife, Sara Fountain Dowdy, of Caldwell; three children, Adora, Bently, and Chevie Dowdy, all of the home; two sisters, Deanna Osborne and husband, Doug, of Union, WV, and Michelle Zierer and husband, Joseph, of Glace; two brothers-in-law, Jeremy Fountain and Michael Fountain, both of Pickaway, WV; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Donald and Ruth Elmore of Pickaway; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Michael will always be loved and truly missed by his wife, kids, family, and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 2 PM at the Glace Hylton Church at

Glace with Roger Boggs and Lawrence Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the Dowdy Cemetery at Glace.

Friends may call Monday, February 2, at the Groves Funeral Home in Union, WV, from 6-8 PM.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dowdy family in care of Groves Funeral Home, P.O. Box 436, Union, WV 24983.
